Uncharted Series
In 2024, I embarked on a journey to the Svalbard archipelago as part of the Arctic Circle Artists Residency Programme. Aboard the MV Ortelius, we navigated the icy waters of the Arctic, circling the archipelago and venturing as far as 82°N, where the pack ice stretched endlessly before us. We encountered a world of incomprehensible scale, raw beauty, and a timelessness that seemed to transcend human experience. Yet, this awe-inspiring environment is also one of profound fragility, its delicate balance increasingly threatened by human activity.
My new body of work is an immersive response to the Arctic landscape—an articulation of edges, transitions, and the layering of time. Through direct engagement with the land, I allow material, movement, and process to dictate form. Clay, shaped by forces of erosion, risk, and environmental jeopardy, bears the imprint of a shifting world. My work speaks to the act of handing over, surrendering control to the strength of place, the unpredictability of nature, and the passing of time.
